We know that using a menstrual cup can be tricky the first time around, but the key is to find a fold and insertion method that works best for you.
First and always, lava tus manos! (Wash your hands). Then, fold your cup. Here are three of our favorites:
The punchdown fold. This fold creates a point to make insertion a little easier:
The 7 fold. When folded, the rim will look like the number 7 and also has a pointed tip to aid with insertion:
The C or U fold. This fold may allow your cup to spring open a bit easier depending on your unique anatomy:
From there insert your cup into the vaginal canal as high or low as you'd like and allow it to open.
Another very important tip is making sure that you're relaxed––if you begin to tense up, this could result in an uncomfy experience. Running a finger around the base of your cup is also an excellent way to determine whether or not it has completely opened. If you feel like it has not, simply readjust it until you feel like it has. You got this!
